Built in 1799 by Judge John Overton, Travellers Rest is the oldest home in Nashville still open to the public. Judge Overton was a lawyer, Tennessee Supreme Court Judge, and buisness partner and friend to President Andrew Jackson. In the winter of 1864, Travellers Rest served as the headquarters to General John Bell Hood leading up to the Battle of Nashville.
During Hood's stay at Travellers Rest, a wedding reception took place for one of Hood's staffers. Travellers Rest has been the site of special occasions for over 200 years. Make your event party of history too! Schedule your special event in our garden/grounds or the Overton Education Center today!
